Current Research:
I study active surface processes on Earth and Mars using remote sensing, field work and Quaternary dating techniques. At present I'm focusing on -
High-resolution ground-based 3D LiDAR measurement of surface morphology as a new tool for studying: a) subaerial rock weathering processes over geologic time scales, and b) estimating the age of alluvial desert pavements.
Distribution and rates of strike-slip deformation across the Gobi-Altai fault system in Mongolia and the Dead Sea Transform in Israel and Jordan. Using a combination of field work, luminescence dating, multi-spectral and radar remote sensing to obtain a regional-scale quantitative perspective on strain partitioning across active intra-continental strike-slip systems.
Slope streaks on Mars. Using color (HiRISE), multispectral (HRSC) and hyperspectral (CRISM) data together with roughness mapping from stereo images to understand the nature of Martian slope streaks. Surface roughness mapping for landing and trafficability.
Sea-cliff retreat processes and rates in the eastern Mediterranean - Using ground-based LiDAR, luminescence dating, underwater surveys and airborne LiDAR to characterize the process and quantify the rates of eolianite sea-cliff erosion along Israel's Mediterranean coast since the mid-Holocene.
