Current Research:
I study the physical processes involved in faulting, crustal deformation and the associated changes in Earth's surface. These interests encompass the structure of faults and fault zones, the form and evolution of fault scarps, and processes related to folding. My current work with students includes feedbacks between fluids and brittle faulting, the evolution of bedrock fault scarps, and the form and mechanics of folds. The work includes field study, photogrammetry, and isotope geochemistry, analytical and computer modeling to evaluate the factors that influence the landforms and deformation we observe. The courses I teach cover topics from the deformation of rocks and the physics behind Earth processes to field approaches in applied geosciences.
