Information for Future Teachers of Secondary Sciences

Candidates to UW Seattle's Teacher Education Program through the College of Education who seek an endorsement in Earth & Space Sciences can meet with an ESS adviser for coursework evaluation. Once you have completed all course work for the secondary teaching endorsement in Earth & Space Sciences and/or General Science, one of our advisers can sign your Endorsement Evaluation which accompanies your application to the UW Teacher Education Program (TEP). If you are seeking an endorsement evaluation in Earth & Space Sciences, but your undergraduate degree is in Astronomy, Atmospheric Sciences, or Oceanography, please contact the adviser in that major for endorsement evaluation:

Astronomy: Jessica Werk ([javascript protected email address])
Atmospheric Sciences: Jennifer Siembor ([javascript protected email address])
Oceanography: Michelle Townsend ([javascript protected email address])

Secondary Teaching Endorsement Coursework

A minimum grade of 2.0 is required for each course used toward an endorsement. ESS Advisers can evaluate your coursework for Earth & Space Science endorsements.

For Earth & Space Science:

Starting in 2016, General Science Teaching Endorsements will not be available through UW departments. Those seeking a Science Teaching Endorsement can pursue one as a certified teacher through these pathways.

Requesting Evaluation

Collect Relevant Transcripts and Course Descriptions
Collect copies of your transcripts from each institution at which you took a course relevant to your endorsement requirements. For non-UW courses, please collect course descriptions or syllabi that reflect the content of the course taken.

Bring All Materials to an ESS Adviser
Be sure to bring all transcripts and Endorsement Evaluation Form to an ESS Adviser, or transmit them electronically if your evaluation will be conducted over phone or email.

All students seeking an MIT from UW Seattle's TEP program are encouraged to contact the College of Education and attend one of their information sessions.

Please see the Secondary Teacher Education Program Website for more information or contact the College of Education with other questions you may have about their application process.
